Mariya Takeuchi returns to the entertainment industry after a two-and-a- half-year-interval with her husband, Tatsuro Yamashita, producing.
Mariya Takeuchi is back, she has been silent since her marriage in April 1982, but she is releasing a new album produced by Tatsuro Yamashita.
She spoke out about the record and her newly married life.
It's been two years since Tatsuro Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi got married on April 6, 1982, and Mariya, who says, "I'm enjoying married life,"
made a comeback on April 10 with the single "Once More / Seriously Only You" (both A-sides).
"Once Again" is the theme song for a TV drama that started on April 6, and "Seriously Only You" is currently being aired as a commercial song for a soft drink.
Also, on April 25, her sixth album titled "Variety" will be released after a two-and-a-half-year interval.
The lyrics and music were written by Mariya and produced by her husband, Yamashita. It's a "husband and wife collaboration" album.
On the other hand, Yamashita's album titled "Melodies" released last June sold over 700,000 copies, making it the number one selling album by a Japanese artist.
He will be the first Japanese artist to direct the music for the American surfing movie "Big Wave" (to be released in late May),
with a single of the same title to be released on May 25 and an album of the same title to be released on June 10.
Mariya hadn't made any official appearances at all since her marriage.
[Below is the interview]:
-How is your married life? Do you and your husband fight?
Yamashita: She doesn't like to fight. And she's good at mending things superficially (laughs).
-By what name do you call each other?
Takeuchi: That's a secret. On official occasions, we call each other "Tatsuro-san" and "Mariya".
-How is your wife's cooking skill?
Yamashita: Yes, she's surprisingly good. Before we got married, I thought she would never wash a single dish.
-What is your husband's favorite food?
Takeuchi: Eels, whale bacon, and noodles.
-What grade would you give your husband?
Takeuchi: Ninety-nine points. Minus one point because he doesn't brush his teeth properly and doesn't wake up well.
-Do you have any plans to have children?
Takeuchi: We'd like to have one sooner or later.
-Do you two ever sing together?
Takeuchi: Sometimes, yes. We sometimes sing at our friends' weddings. When we do, we rehearse at home.
-Does your husband behave differently at home than outside?
Yamashita: Everyone has a different face inside and outside, don't they?
-Do you have any plans for a concert?
Takeuchi: No, I don't. I have no plans to appear on TV either.
Yamashita: I'm planning to start a concert tour in October.
On their second wedding anniversary, they still seem to be feeling like newlyweds.
Their update will be broadcast on the NHK FM program "Yamashita Tatsuro's Sound Street" on April 19 and 26."
This is a rare promo CD featuring American DJ "Kamasami Kong" and Anri, in their only known collaboration.
An absolute gem for fans of his trademark style. Enjoy!
